We know that COVID-19 is having a disproportionate impact on BAME communities and their mental health. Yet despite this, there has been a dramatic fall in the number of people being referred for mental health treatment. We must talk about this.

That’s why I’ve decided to launch #CallAKhan to hear directly from my BAME constituents about their experiences, how they are coping, and what more they want to see done to help keep our communities safe and well.

Next week, I’ll be hosting a Q&A on mental health in the BAME community with Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Mental Health Minister.

There is so much stigma attached to asking questions about our mental health, but that mustn’t stop us from having open and frank conversations about it.
