I am seeking a proactive and politically engaged Senior Parliamentary Assistant to support my work in Parliament. 

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, with excellent writing skills and able to work efficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. See the job specification below.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Handle policy and campaign queries
  • Draft speeches, parliamentary contributions, and briefings
  • Provide policy advice and ensure the I am is briefed on Parliamentary business 
  • Research local, regional, or national issues to support my work and write briefings accordingly 
  • Liaise with stakeholders, interest groups, and external bodies 
  • Supervise a junior member of staff 
  • Attend, organise, or support meetings and events, occasionally outside normal working hours 
  • Ensure data protection compliance and maintain confidentiality at all times 
  • Undertake other responsibilities in relation to the my parliamentary duties 
  • Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them. 

 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to work collaboratively or independently when required 
  • Ability to handle a large and complex workload 
  • Knowledge of UK parliamentary procedures and tools 
  • Good local/regional/national political knowledge, understanding and judgement 
  • Experience of social media is desirable 
  • Experience of working in Parliament is desirable 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools 
  • Personable, with a can-do and proactive attitude 
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party 

 

Additional Information

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines. 

Closing Date: 11:59pm on Thurs, 10th September 2026 

Location: London

Salary: IPSA Pay scale £36,175 – £56,996 (dependent on experience)

Length of Contract: 1 year with possibility of extension

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted on the 11th of September and invited to interview the w/c 14th September to start ASAP.
