Pride in Place Updates

Keep up to date with meetings, community events and new projects here

With Pride in Place coming to parts of Moss Side and Whalley Range I want to keep you up to date with key dates and events to attend if you’d like to be involved. I will also update this page as projects develop once the work on them has begun.

Present Updates

Applications are now open to become the Community Chair or a Board member of our Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board.

As Community Chair, you will be responsible for bringing together local people and groups within the community who have applied to form the Neighbourhood Board. You will also lead the Neighbourhood Board, helping them to agree on the issues that matter most to our community.

The Community Chair’s first major job will be to form the Board. You will have help from myself as your MP and from the Council, but ultimately the final decision will be yours to make. The Board should reflect the diversity of Moss Side and Whalley Range. You will then be tasked with leading the group meetings, ensuring that all Board members are listened to and respected.

Board members will be selected by the Community Chair and will work with the Community Chair to decide which projects should be prioritised. The Neighbourhood Board will be reflective of the area that the Pride in Place funding has been allocated for to ensure that decisions about the funding are made in the best possible interests of all our Moss Side and Whalley Range community.

The Board will be asked to create the 10-year Regeneration Plan and the Investment Plans. This will help to structure Pride in Place in Moss Side and Whalley Range for the decade of regeneration to come.

You do not need any formal leadership skills to apply, however you must work, live, or have a strong link to the community. You must also recognise the time commitment you are about to make to leading this project, and the Community Chair must be comfortable being the public face of Pride in Place in the area.

To apply to be the Community Chair, please send an expression of interest to community@manchester.gov.uk. This only needs to be up to 500 words, outlining your connection to the area as well as how your skills and experiences would make you an outstanding candidate for the position.

To apply to be a member of the Neighbourhood Board, you can either send an expression of interests (no more than 500 words) or a 3-5 minute video to community@manchester.gov.uk.  You should highlight your connection to the area, what you can bring to the board, and why you want to join.

If you are shortlisted to be the Community Chair, you will be invited to be interviewed by myself and the lead councillors. A final decision will be made after all the interviews have been completed. The Community Chair will be appointed before the end of June and the Neighbourhood Board will be appointed by the middle of August.

The deadline for all applications is midnight, Monday the 15th of June. For more information, please email me at afzal.khan.mp@parliament.uk or katie.mccall@manchester.gov.uk.

Good luck!
